Twenty-two awards will recognize leadership and academic excellence across all Sask Polytech campuses
September 2025
Students at Saskatchewan Polytechnic have a new source of support, thanks to a $100,000 investment from the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Students’ Association (SPSA).
The gift creates 22 Academic and Leadership Scholarships annually over the next three years. Each of the scholarships are valued at $1,500 and will be open to students from every program and campus.
“These awards strongly advocate for and support students who demonstrate academic excellence, community service, leadership and inclusivity,” says SPSA President Rosby James. “We want students to be able to focus on their education without the added stress of economic barriers.”
The scholarships were first envisioned by the 2024-2025 SPSA Executive Council. The current council carried the project through to completion. “Our predecessors initiated and tirelessly worked on this program,” James explains. “This year, our council ensured it became a reality for students.”
For many, the impact will be immediate. Rising tuition, textbook costs and the need to balance part-time work are common challenges. “Some students are supporting families or commuting long distances,” James says. “These scholarships will help ease those burdens and give students more time to focus on their goals.”
Applicants must be members of the SPSA who are enrolled in a full-time or part-time on-campus core program. Students must be in good academic standing maintaining a minimum 70 per cent GPA, and are required to submit a personal statement and letter of recommendation.
James, a second-year Project Management student, believes the scholarships are about more than money. “Beyond financial support, it shows that SPSA is invested in student success both inside and outside the classroom,” she says.
Applications for the new SPSA Academic and Leadership Scholarships open this fall through Sask Polytech’s scholarship portal.
