SaskEco Urban Concept Cars

The next generation of innovators. Today’s students, putting their theories of energy-efficiency to the test using cutting-edge technology, critical thinking, technical excellence and broken hockey sticks. Designing and building two ultra-energy-efficient cars, students learn skills in all aspects of engineering and at the same time are inspired to be a part of a cleaner, sustainable future.

Sask Polytech’s SaskEco Urban Concept team’s innovative ideas are true Saskatchewan creative thinking. Students transform textbook knowledge into applied learning so that recycled hockey sticks can be used for the frame, a plastic pop bottle for the fuel system, and an ice auger for the engine!

The Shell Eco-Marathon is a world-wide energy efficiency competition for students in science, technology and engineering to design and build energy-efficient cars for on and off track competitions. The SaskEco team’s innovative ideas have taken them far around the race track for the Mileage Challenge – competing for the greatest distance using the least amount of energy.

In 2017, their first year in the competition, the team ranked 18 out of the 54 competitors in their category. The 2018 competition took the team to 2nd place in the America’s competition, with 625.3 mpg fuel efficiency! This success earned the team a spot as the first Canadian contenders at the World competition in London, England, and resulted in a 2nd place win!

The team is preparing for their next competition and support is needed to help provide the next generation of innovators the opportunity to participate in this important learning experience.

Your donation, matched with the students drive and desire to learn new skills, will provide opportunity for the next generation of innovators to advance their academic and career goals. Your support of this important educational project will help students to discover new advancements to a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Make your donation today and join the team on the winner’s podium!
