November 2023

Giving Tuesday is the world’s largest generosity movement. Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good, inspire giving, collaborate and celebrate generosity.

On November 28, Saskatchewan Polytechnic is hosting the third annual Giving Day to coincide with Giving Tuesday. Giving Day is your chance to participate in #GivingTuesday, to give where your heart lives right here in Saskatchewan, by making a difference for students at Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

Help raise funds and awareness for bursaries for the Student Emergency Fund. The need is real. Over 320 students at Sask Polytech have accessed emergency financial support this year already. Emergencies can include temporary financial assistance for necessities like food, heating bills, rent, childcare, bus passes and utilities—things that are absolutely essential for them to be in school, learning.

Supporting the Student Emergency Fund can make a world of difference for a student, just like Amber:

My name is Amber, I am currently enrolled full time in the SCBScN program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. I am a single mother that lives an hour out of Saskatoon and rely on my car to get me to and from school and practicum. My car recently broke down when the seal broke on the rack and pinion, which led my power steering to completely go. I hope that this bursary can help us to pay for the repairs on my car.

It's the Christmas season and I am very grateful for this bursary to help my six-year-old daughter to have a great Christmas, and for us to have food in our fridge through the winter months is very important.

Thank you so much for this opportunity.

Amber J., Student Nurse

Gifts to Giving Day have the power to change students’ lives by removing barriers to success, creating opportunities and supporting them when they need it most. The need for student financial support had grown significantly. We have seen a 30 per cent increase in emergency funding requests over the previous year. This year, inflationary pressures will continue to impact our students.

On November 28 we are asking everyone to open your hearts and show you care. Give where your heart lives and support our students right here at home. Donate now and your impact will double! Gifts will be matched dollar for dollar, up to a total of $10,000.

Be a part of Giving Day at Sask Polytech and show your support by getting involved in any way you can. Challenge friends, family members and colleagues by making a Giving Day donation and engage with our social media to help spread the message.

Help to ensure there is financial support available for our students when they need it.
